Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a naturally occurring sulfur-containing fatty acid that plays an essential role as a coenzyme in mitochondrial energy metabolism. It is both water- and fat-soluble, allowing it to function in both cell membranes and intracellular environments, earning it the reputation as the "universal antioxidant.
It scavenges free radicals, chelates metal ions, and regenerates other antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and glutathione. It is widely used in anti-aging supplements, diabetic health products, and skin care formulations.
