Product description:

Pomegranates are rich in healthy antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, which have health benefits. Pomegranate's strong antioxidant activity is attributed to its phenolic compounds, including angarin. Punicalagin is a water-soluble ellagic tannin with high bioavailability. It is present in pomegranates as alpha and beta. Moreover, punicalagins not only provide powerful antioxidant properties on their own, but can be hydrolyzed in vivo into smaller phenolic compounds, such as ellagic acid, one potential mechanism being hydrolyzed through the mitochondrial membrane of cultured human colon cells. It is a highly reactive carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and is widely metabolized. Pomegranate extracts, especially those standardized as Punicalagins, are "generally recognized as safe" (GRAS) in the United States.
